Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan Underway

The City of Port Colborne has launched a Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan with McQueen, Galloway and Associates. This Plan will identify current and future needs of residents for indoor and outdoor recreation, sport amenities and services. Spanning a 10-year horizon from 2025 to 2035, this initiative will help shape the future of community spaces and programs that will align and amplify the City’s strategic priorities.

The project will define appropriate levels of service and sustainability standards for the City’s assets and services, ensuring they meet community expectations now and into the future. A key component of this work will be extensive community consultation to confirm local values and priorities. This will guide the development of a clear, actionable plan designed to enhance quality of life for all residents.

Engagement

Community engagement will be at the heart of shaping the direction of the new Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan. To ensure the Plan reflects the needs and values of residents, a multi-phase consultation process will take  over the span of many months. This will include interviews with key partners and staff, sessions with local user groups, youth engagement activities, an online survey, and an in-person open house and pop up events at the farmer’s market.

Regular updates, reports, and opportunities to participate will be posted throughout the process.

West Lincoln

Township to Develop Recreation and Parks Plan

The Township of West Lincoln is developing a Recreation and Parks Plan. This Plan will provide a roadmap to enhance and grow the Township’s parks and recreation facilities and services for residents, user groups, and visitors now and into the future. The Township retained the consulting firms of McQueen Galloway Associates (MGA) and GSP group to facilitate all phases of this project. MGA and GSP understand communities like West Lincoln and the complexity of balancing community needs and financial sustainability for the Township’s population growth. Key components of the planning process include:

  • Evaluating existing parks, open spaces, amenities and recreational facilities for condition, accessibility, design and capacity.
  • Identifying future needs for all types of recreational spaces based on growth and trends profiles.
  • Identifying gaps and duplication and making recommendations for efficiencies.
  • Establishing a bold vision based on the values and aspirations of the community.

Centre Wellington

Township Launches Parks and Recreation Plan
Parks and recreation are essential to everyday life in Centre Wellington and play a significant role in community building through the facilitation of active and passive activities and the strengthening of neighbourhood connections. Planning is critical. As the Township grows, and changes, the interests of our residents need to reflect the overall vision, direction, and guidance when making decisions about parks, recreation, programs, services, and facilities. This is why the Township of Centre Wellington is excited to embark on the development of several key strategic Parks and Recreation Plans.

  1.  Parks & Recreation Needs Assessment
  2. Parks Plan
  3.  Parks and Recreation Plan
  4.  Indoor Multi-Use Recreation Facility Feasibility Study

The results will provide a roadmap that will enhance and grow the Township’s parks and recreation facilities and services and events for residents, user groups, and visitors now and into the future. These plans will guide decision-making across all aspects of parks and recreation, from playgrounds to programs and everything in between.

Kincardine

Municipality Approves Parks & Recreation Strategic Plan
March 28, 2024
An initiative that began with asking individuals to “pipe-up” about parks and recreation in the Municipality of Kincardine came full circle at last night’s council meeting with the receiving of a new Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan. Consultations, with the guidance of McQueen Galloway Associates (MGA), began in the summer of 2023. Opportunities for the community to share their thoughts along with interviews with staff and Council form the foundation for the plan.

“The consultation confirmed that residents and visitors to this community are passionate about their recreational pursuits here,” said Jayne Jagelewski, director of community services. “The enthusiasm really highlights how this is a much-need document. It provides direction for the future of parks, facilities, and programs in the Municipality of Kincardine. That it’s built upon the information shared with us through community engagement speaks to its strength.”

As a working document, it provides staff with opportunities to engage and inform council as they move through the 130 action items. Jagelewski is excited to see the vision for the Municipality of Kincardine’s parks and recreation forming with more clarity: “This helps us to map a precise direction, from work plans through to budget and staffing needs. Thank you to everyone who took the time to ‘pipe up’ and make a difference.”
